San Sebastian Daytrips

Any suggestions for daytrips from San Sebastian? Fodorites. No suggestion not considered. We have a car! Would consider South of France.

I'm also planning on being in San Sebastian the weekend of June 18th. I would also like to know what to do around there.

Well just over the border in France are some primo seaside resorts - St Jean de Luz and the really famous Biarritz - some of the finest beaches in Europe await - Biarritz is more than just a beach - historic old resort that once saw the rich and famous flock here - including many Brits.

And you can follow the course of the Tren Eskro (sp?) that winds from Donostia (San Sebastian is loathed as the town name by the local Basques and IME often graffitied off road signs) thru several Basque towns Hendaye, the French border town that is just a few miles from the resorts.

An obvious day trip is Bilbao. There's a nonstop bus from San Sebastian. We were going to do a lot of daytrips but succumbed to magnificent lunches at the Michelin-starred restaurants instead...

We did many day trips from Hondarribia..I recommend fro San Sebasitian you visit Hondarribia,Getaria, Pamplona and Bilbao Spain, and in France t-Jean de Luz, and the pretty pays Basque villages of Ascain, Espelette, and Ainhoa.
The best information on this area is avaialbe on
www. maribelsguides.com . She has a pdf file you can print out on San Sebastian, HOndarribia, the Pais Vasco and the Pays Basque(in France.) She gives ideas for day trips and excursions. Its a wonderful part of the world.
