San Seb in October - Trip Itinerary Advice!

Jump to last reply

Heading to Spain for 7 nights in the 1st week of October. We are flying into Bilbao, staying in San Sebastian and flying out of Madrid (spending the 8th night there)

For the first 3 nights we will be there, we'll be 2 couples in our 30's that are looking to make the most of the food scene in San Sebastian. We may visit some more cultural sites in the area, but will likely be taking those 3 days to relax and enjoy each others company (and hope it doesn't rain so we can walk along the beaches)

we're hoping to rent a 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment for the first 3 nights
- what area would be best for us to stay in San Sebastian? I've been focusing on Parte Vieja and Centro - is this the easiest? or is relatively easy to get to the nightlife center from further away from the fray?
- recommendations for websites to find rentals? (have looked at homeaway, friendlyrentals.com and enjoyrentals.com -- any others??)

after our friends head home, two of us were thinking of staying in Villa Soro in the outskirts of san sebastian and renting a car to explore the area with day trips. here are some we were considering - any others worth visiting?
- Bilbao
- Biarritz
- Getaria
- Lekeitio

husband and are considering a cooking class, love biking day trips, love going to local markets and finding places to we prefer not to move hotels more than once during our vacation. is this too much time in san sebastian? should we see another area of Spain instead? or stay somewhere else in the basque area? I had been hoping to stay at Iturregi for the 2nd half of the trip but it is booked (except the suite ... NOT in the budget). anything similar that can be recommended? loved that it was out of the way and in a quiet, gorgeous setting.

Any recommendations / thoughts appreciated - thanks everyone!
