Salzburg to Innsbruck - scenic drive
H, All,
I will be driving from Salzburg to Innsbruck on 30 April 2013 and would like your advices on a scenic drive between the 2 cities. I looked up google maps and the standard route is through motorway 8 and A12, which could be the boring though efficient autobahn route.
Is there a more scenic option available and can you please point me in that direction? Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Mohan

The motorway itinerary is not boring, as the section between Salzburg and Rosenheim is fairly curvy, it skirts the Chiemsee and crosses a lot of Bavarian pastoral landscapes.
The alternative is Salzburg - Lofer - St. Johann in Tirol - Wörgl - Innsbruck. It takes just half an hour more (it is shorter but slower). Nice alpine landscape.
I often drive Salzburg - Bernau an Chiemsee - Aschau - Niederndorf and the the highway. The Bavarian section is very nice as well.
There could be other itineraries for example through Reith in Winkl but they get slower and slower.
