Salzburg or Cesky Krumlov tour?

We are taking a river cruise next week and we have choices for daily excursions (tours). Our day in Linz has too many choices! We can spend the whole day on a tour of Salzburg or we can spend the day visiting Cesky Krumlov. I've heard wonderful things about both spots. Can anyone help?

IMHO Salzburg has way more to see and do and if you can only do one that would be it.

But how much time do you actually have in either one - how long off the boat and how long to get to the city?

Salzburg definitely. Chesky Krumlov is very picturesque but nothing compares to Salzburg IMO. Try to get up to the Fortress or some other place where you can look down on the city with all it's churches and the river.

Thank you for your input. I'm leaning towards Salzburg also. We only have one full day. I hear wonderful reports on the beauty of Salzburg.

Having visited both cities more than once, I would choose Salzburg because there is more to fill an entire day (and then some)than in Cesky Krumlov. I might even skip the tour and make up the day based on what interests you. If you are a Sound of Music fan, you can visit many of the city scenes by yourself. Hohensalzburg is worth the effort if the weather is clear. Shopping and sightseeing along Getreidegasse will likely have you elbow-to-elbow with other visitors, but the street can still be charming. Of course, Mozart House is a stop if that interests you. For something a little more fun, take Bus25 to Schloss Hellbrunn and its trick fountains (bonus: if you are a SOM fan, the gazebo is in the palace park).

I hope this is helpful.
