Salzburg Accomodations on a Budget

We are thinking of stopping in Salzburg for a single night. We have stayed in the Altstadt before but this time because we are traveling with friends we are really watching the budge. I have seen Am Moos B&B mentioned as a good option. Ira, is that where you stay? Are there others?

Hi AS,

Am Moos is an excellent choice. I recommend it highly.

Will you have a car?

We will have a car. We will be staying at an RCI time-share at Schloss Grubhof near Kitsbuhl then as our week ends we will go for a day and a night in Salzburg before we head for Munich to the airport and our friends who are traveling with us will take the train to Vienna.

I get hte idea that Am Moos is close to the Salzburg airport and a short bus ride to the altstadt.

We stayed at the KOHLPETER in Salzburg. It's on a little side street (on the hotel route) about 3 miles from the fortress. A 5 minute walk from the hotel to the tram. This place is a beautiful family run guesthouse and restaurant. We paid 87.50 Euro for a large deluxe double including a wonderful full breakfast. It was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at in Europe.

I contacted Am Moos for a few nights in June and they were booked, so you may want to contact them ASAP. Instead we will be staying at Haus Ballwein, which is in the same price range. I haven't stayed there previously but found good reviews on TripAdvisor and VirtualTourist. A post on VirtualTourist states that this is the place that administrators at Salzburg Univ. recommend for visiting parents...

Hi A,

Am Moos is convenient to the airport, in that it is about 5 min from the A10, but it is about 5km from the airport and is not on the flightpath.

The Am Moos is about a 2-min walk to the sheltered bus stop.

It is 12 min to town.

Buses run about every 15 min.

Mr Strasser will give you the schedule for the days you are there.

The Salzburg card is worth the money.

My trip report is at http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=35014078

Enjoy your visit.

Hi AisleSeat,
My husband and I, my parents, my father-in-law, and my younger sister all stayed at Haus am Moos last June for 3 nights in the midst of our famly trip. It was our favorite accomodation of the entire trip. My husband and I will be in Salzburg for another 2 nights this coming May and we booked with Walter some time ago to stay at Haus am Moos again. I highly recommend it.

We also really liked Am moos. We drove from Fussen and had some trouble finding Moostrasse which is a very long street and it is fairly close to the airport. Many of the B&B's were farmhouses and a few still farm. There was a great little restaurant near AM that overlooked a riding arena. It was on the opposite side of the street from AM and a block or so away. The owners of Am moos do a very good breakfast. Bus was super convenient.
