Salzburg is in Austria. Given travel time maybe just limit it to Nuremburg and Munich. I would do 2 days and 3 days respectively.

Salzburg is in Austria. How many days do you actually have - when leave Prague (trip to salzburg is about 7 hours by train) and when do you have to get to your next location - and what is it? Really need to sort out the transport in between - assuming you are using trains - to know how much time you have to spend versus for travel.

You can see a lot of Salzburg in one day (2 night) but will need a third night to see any countryside. And Munich will require 2 nights to see - or 3 nights if you want to see the castles south of the city.

But where do you need to end up?

Your route should be Prague to Salzburg, Salzburg to Nuremburg, Nuremburg to munich with the longest train trip is from Prague to Salzburg. Maybe an overnight train to Salzburg as it is over 6 hours to get there. I think you can do one full day on Salzburg, two at the most, 2 days on Nuremburg and 3 days on Munich.

Probably you do not have time to fit in Fussen.

OK, I am not seeing any direct overnight trains from Prague to Salzburg so maybe your route that you suggested is best.

I'd suggest to go from Prague to Nueremberg, than to Munich and Salzburg. You could do Salzburg from Munich as a day tour or spend a night there. Travel times: Prague - Nuremberg: 3:38 by IC Bus of Deutsche Bahn (E. 24 if you book well in advance on www.bahn.de), Nuremberg - Munich 1:10, Munich - Salzburg 1:20 to 1:50. If you travel on a budget you can take a cheap Czech train ticket to Plzen and from P. to Nuremberg a cheap "Bayern - Boehmen - Ticket". Salzburg is beautiful but small, so both Nuremberg and Munich offer more things to see. The trip from Munich to Füssen is time consuming and barely rewarding (after all, Neuschwanstein is but a copy of an medieval castle). Alternatively, you could enjoy some fine mountain scenery if you go either from Salzburg / Munich to Lake Königssee (travel time 1 h, marvelous boat tour on the lake) or from Munich to Lake Tegernsee (travel time 1h).

Addendum to my previous post: If you absolutely want to see one of the castles of Louis II, you could go to the Herrnchiemsee castle in Lake Chieemsee. Go to Prien from Munich or Salzburg (ca 1h from Munich, a bit less from S.), take the bus for the short ride to Stock harbour (on weekends there ist an old narrow gauge steam train instead) and then the boat to the Herrnchiemsee Island. Infos on boat times at http://www.chiemsee-schifffahrt.de/ (they have a flyer in English). This tour gives you mountains, lake and castle all in one. Enjoy your trip!
