I'm visiting Madrid and Rome in the next few weeks and would like any suggestions of a good hair salon experience that anyone might have had or suggestions for a reliable guidebook or website that suggests salons.

In Madrid a Llongueras salon will have a good reputation.

Not sure if they speak English though. Perhaps an expat forum will give you some more ideas. You always have El Corte Inglés and they DO have an interpreting service, or at least they used to, for the tourists.
Thanks--I'm fluent in Spanish and can speak Italian pretty well, so the language is not an issue.
Thanks for the idea about an expats app!
