Salerno to Praiano & return
Folks!
Can anybody help with this scenario: 1. we are arriving by train in Salerno @ 2:30 PM on October 1st, and need to get to Praiano. 2. We are leaving on a train on October 6th at 10:30 AM from Salerno back to Florence.
Questions: Can we effeciently use the ferry and bus system at that time of year to ensure that we get to where we are going (both directions)on time! Is it better to go to Positano or Amalfi for transfers??
Thanks, SwissNorsk

Hi SwissN - The ferries run well into October (- weather permitting, of course).
The current timetable lists a 15.30 Salerno-Amalfi ferry from Piazza della Concordia jetty.
(You might want to confirm this departure time in advance).
Journey time: approx. 35 mins. Fare: € 4.50
http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr...i/costiera.asp
From Amalfi you can catch the Sita bus to Praiano (- 25 mins).
If the ferries aren't running because of the weather, you can catch the bus from Salerno F.S to Praiano (- approx 2 hrs) - with a change of bus in Amalfi.
For the return journey to Salerno you will have to go by bus as the earliest ferry is too late for you.
For bus timetables check this link before you leave. (The current timetables are only valid until 9 Sept):

Hope this helps ...

P.S. For your return journey it might be quicker to go via Meta/Sorrento rather than Salerno (- as Praiano-Salerno takes 2hrs by bus).

Where are you arriving in Salerno from ? as if you are coming from Naples you will find it easier to take the Circumvesuviana train into into Sorrento and then the SITA bus from outside Sorrento Station to Praiano

Thank you all for the information! We are arriving via Roma, so Salerno was suggested by the hotel innkeeper at Le Serene.
We will try the ferry and bus first, and resort to the bus from Salerno, if weather doesn't cooperate. It sounds like coming back we should just eliminate the stree and get a driver for 90-100 Euros to take us back to the train sation in Salerno.
Again, I really appreciate your advice and help.

Hi S.

No stress.
Giancarmine at Le SIrene will arrange for a porter to carry your luggage up to the bus stop.
The bus has a compartment for luggage under the passenger area.
You will be taken to the front door of the train station in Salerno.
You will save 90E.

Hi SwissN - Whether you go by public transport or limo it makes more sense to go the Meta route rather than the Salerno route on your return journey.
By public transport it's quicker.
By limo Praiano-Naples should cost no more than Praiano-Salerno.
Hope this helps ...
