Sailing in the Ionian Islands

Hello fodorites

Bikerscott and I just got back from a fabulous two week holiday in the Greek Ionian Islands.

We sailed with Activity Holidays Greece and would highly recommend them! Their website is http://www.activityholidaysgreece.com if anyone is interested.

Our pictures are here https://www.flickr.com/photos/pug_gi...57657949618609

We had a wonderful time. Every port was busy and filled with people, and the Greek people were lovely. We can't wait to return and are already planning next years sailing trip!

Happy to answer any questions!

God yes.

Done this, great place.

Where did you visit?

Greece is still the greatest sea faring nation. No visiting craft large or small is denied a berth on the public quay FOR FREE. Compare that to Sardinia where you will pay e150 a night. How can you dislike a nation like that?

We did Lefkas, to Fiscardo and all places in between. Great protected sailing.

Have you sailed before?

Thanks everyone!

We sailed the Dodecanese in 2012.

We visited Nidri, Palermos on the mainland, Kioni, Fiskardo, Sivota, Kalamos, Vathi on Meganesi, Vasiliki, and Frikes.

We had some amazing winds...great experience!

I am jealous!!!
Was this Paleros rather than Palermos?
I am very fond of this part of Greece and I find it a pitty it doesn't get many mentions on this forum. So thanks for your report. Ionian islands/Western mainland Greece was my chosen area for vacations for many many years and if I could ever have summer holidays again, this is where I would go.
Even on late fall or winter those places hold some charm that other areas of Greece do not on my opinion. It would be nice to have more people on this forum thinking a bit out of the box (aka visit somewhere else in Greece than Athens,Mykonos,Santorini,Paros,Naxos,Rhodes,Crete, Nafplion,Delphi and Meteora). Just saying....

That's just the route we took.

We loved Vathi and Kioni.

Locals were so friendly.
