Safety wallets or pouches

Can anyone recommend a good safety wallet or pouch? Best to wear something around your neck or in your waistband covered by a shirt? Anyone puchased something they love to use?

"Love to use" is probably an exageration! I use a waist moneybelt, under my clothes, bought it from RickSteves.com a long time ago. There are different kinds of fabrics (breathable?) - don't know what mine is - it doesn't bother me as we always travel in cooler weather. You can buy them at luggage sections of Target, Kmart, Walmart etc ($7-10 usually), or from www.Magellans.com

Hubby prefers a 'leg safe' that is a zippered cloth pouch with Velcro/stretch straps that goes around your calf. More accessible than the waist kind, no 'weight' around your neck. Since we go in cool weather, we always have long pants so that works for him. I found one online for around $10 - Google for "leg safe" and "leg stash"; I think Eagle Creek might make one.

He was using the pouch that your belt loops thru, then you tuck it into your pants/slacks at the waist. He decided he didn't like that one when he had to remove the belt going thru security check, and the pouch fell unnoticed on the floor during the exchange. A security officer picked it up and handed it back to him. Before that, he was certain he didn't need to use anything, until his passport "fell out" of his jeans pocket and we spent a vacation day in Amsterdam getting it replaced.

I personally use a neck pouch; before I put it on in the morning, I take only the days money out, and I never pull the neck wallet out until I'm back in the hotel for the night. In it I keep my passport, drivers license and cash supply (never more than a few days worth). It is marketed by Eagle Creek, http://www.eaglecreek.com/40022.html There are available waistband pouches and leg wallets, which I assume would be as effective and secure. Just a matter of personal preference.

Both my husband and I used the UnderCover Hidden Pocket by Eagle Creek. Here is a link: http://www.eaglecreek.com/40024.html

We both found it easy to use, and not too large and bulky but big enough to carry the essentials, Money, credit card, and photocopy of passport.

We use the money belt by Eagle Creek as well. I find they're pretty comfortable.

You can find a good selection at most luggage stores or mail order catelog like TravelSmith. Neck pouch or waist belt are a personal preference, and I don't think anyone has one they "love" to use -LOL. But some you may find more convenient or comfortable than others.

There's also zippered safety pockets in travel clothes (again see TravelSmith for ideas), leg safes, socks with zippers, leather belts with a slit for cash, etc.

I also agree that TravelSmith might be helpful. I went to Madrid and Barcelona in May and was happy I purchased TravelSmith pants with hidden zipper pockets. Not only did they protect my valuables, they were cool to wear and easy to wash and dried very quickly. I would think they would be ideal summer wear when Europe can be very warm.

Let me recommend the Easy Going money belt. It can be worn around your neck, waist, or attach to your belt and then tucked into your pants. I like to put it on over on shoulder and neck and below the other shoulder, next to my rib cage. What makes this belt so good is the strap has a stainless steel cable that runs through it so nobody can cut it off you. Only $20.

http://www.beltoutlet.com/clipwalbyaus.html

Clip wallet by Austin House! I can't stand having things hanging around my neck or around my waist, especially in hot weather. And while there are wallets that have a loop that can go over a belt and tuck into your slacks (or whatever) many times I don't want to wear a belt at all. This clip wallet has a metal clip that fits over a belt OR waistband. since it is just one small square of wallet (just big enough for a passport) it is much cooler and more comfortable than a full belt. And much easier to remove in a secure shop than a moneybelt, where you practically have to undress if you do need cash for a big purchase.

Eagle Creek neck pouch worked for me..it is light and you can put it under a shirt or top. I fastened the back of the strap under the label of my shirts with a safety pin.
