It is normal for tourists. Probably more safe than Rome. But you need to do the typical things like lock your car and not drink too much if you are a woman. Stay in a nice hotel. Everybody will take care of you. People in Calabria are very nice.

We've been there many times and never had a problem. In fact, we were more relaxed there as opposed to other cities in Roma.

Buon viaggio,

Sorry nakra, Woin is a bit frustrated with the US President who keeps insulting his nearest allies as a prelude to insulting them again.

Europe is incredibly fine and safe, especially in comparison to the USA, however if you are coming from Japan it is less safe. Other countries, I give up.

You'll be fine.

But you are coming to a different culture, since I don't know your culture it is worth mentioning that if you are a woman and you sit in a cafe alone and you are very pretty then you may be complimented by the men. This is not some sort of come-on (they may even be a bit worried if you did) but they have been brought up that way. They are easy to shut up, just be clear and friendly.

Other than that and a slight danger of "wandering-hands" on public transport you are generally in a safe place. Since, restaurants tend to serve supper late then being out at night is the norm. Lots of people walk out in the evening, it is another part of the culture, so you'll find kids and grandmothers wandering around in the centre of town.

Yes, it is true that if you come from Japan or China or India it is not as safe for you in Italy. Sometimes these tourists carry with them lots of money, not credit cards, so the thieves look for them first. But that is only a big problem if you go to the big train station in Italy like Rome or Naples. In Lamezia Terme it is not a problem. You only need to do the normal things every tourist does to be safe.
