Safety and night time arrival at Dubrovnik airport?

Hi all- I am a female traveling alone into Dubrovnik and one option is a flight that lands at 9pm. I have never been to Croatia...how safe is it to get transport into the center of town? (I don't yet know where I am staying but likely near the old town.)

Should I stay at a hotel that will come pick me up? Are taxi drivers trustworthy?

Thanks!

Croatia is a very safe country, in my experience. I wouldn't avoid taking a public bus if one is scheduled in the time frame of your arrival. When I first stayed in Dubrovnik in 2009, I stayed at a place just outside the Pile Gate of the old town - what I found to be a very convenient location. And that seems to be where the airport buses would drop you:

As a solo female traveler, I would have no qualms in your situation. Just take the normal precautions....

No security concerns but if you arive at 9pm I would consider opting for a more direct transfer. There is relatively affordable driver services that will pick you up at the airport and drop you off where you need to go. Taking the bus is possible, but unless you are completely sure that you would get off at the right stop and find your way, I would be probably less ambitious on arrival. Later the bus is certainly an option. Just with luggage and not exactly knowing where I want to go I would probably organize transfer ...

As an option, as you have not settled on a place to stay yet: Check out Cavtat. That is a small town closer to the airport. Transfer was just a 10 mins ride from the airport.
It is a really nice small town, right on the water with a good selection of different priced hotels, B&Bs or vacation rentals. There is a bus going into Dubrovnik (about 30 mins) or a boat taxi (about 60mins) ... both are kind of nice. A more quiet alternative potentially.
