We do have a world mastercard and plan to use it for the car rental. We orginally planned this trip for last March but had to reschedule due to family illness. Wow - I have read recent postings on various forum and am just in shock. Today I went on Dooley website and called their US telephone number. She informed me they would actually charge our MC $3000 if we waive CDW - even when we get the credit back it will still cost us at least $90 because of our credit car company foreign exchange fee That is also what Thrifty Dollar and Avis all say as well
So I have been looking for various options. I did call Hertz and was told they would put a hold on the card but would not charge it - that is fine - but does not agree with their website and she would not provide me with that in writing.
I did find competitive rates at both of the above - and did not see where they would actually process a charge but would instead place a hold on account for the amount. But I have read nothing about either of these. Can anyone help?
Also would appreciate any recent stories of car rentals in Ireland
Thanks
Pam

Check out www.irelandyes.com's forums. Michele has called or emailed every major car rental company that operates in Ireland to find out what they require for deposit or for a hold on the credit card. Some were more clear in their answers than others.
Dan Dooley! They are an Irish based, family owned company and great to work with. Desks at both Shannon and Dublin airports. Clean cars and great, ALL inclusive rates. If you visit www.irelandexpert.com and mention the site when you book, you get a 10% discount as well! I've rented from them all 4 times I've been to Ireland and it was nothing but splendid! www.dandooley.com Hope this helps!
