well, thanks to some good input from this site we decided on an apartment on the above street. this is west of sacre couer, very near the lamarck caulaincourt metro. any experience with the neighborhood, restaurants, etc in this area? we will be close enough to montmarte proper and the batignolles area to walk. we have 10 days and have been to paris twice before. plan to take in our favorite sites again but want to explore this area. thank you.

You are in luck, Le Maquis, 69 rue Caulaincourt, should be near your hotel. Be advised, this is a small bistro favored by locals; you must reserve.

Another big thumbs up for Le Maquis. As oakglen mentioned, reservations a must but it is a terrific neighborhood bistro. I have made the trip up to Montmartre many times for a meal there!
