Route question, southern Ireland

We will be driving from Kenmare to Youghal and are debating which road to take. The shorter route is along N22. But the alternate is along N71 heading south and driving closer to the coast. Is the southern route more picturesque? Or is it easier to just stay on the
more major road N22? Thx in advance for comments.
