Rotterdam celebrates its architecture.
75 years ago, the first reconstruction effort of Rotterdam started in 1941 already. In fact, the first plans for reconstruction were drawn up only a few weeks after the bombing of Rotterdam on may 14th, 1940.
In 2017 we're celebrating our architecture you might say. One of the hommages to Maaskant, an architect who left his mark in Rotterdam, is a giant stairway that lets you access the roof of his Groothandelsgebouw. It'll be there for a limited time, so if you are in the Netherlands this summer, head to Rotterdam. Lots of things happening. Very festive!

It's on the list!
Having enjoyed a view of Rotterdam, and the work out you received climbing those steps head to Amsterdam and go up the old Shell building, now called Adamtoren, for a view of that city. There's a lift for that one.

Rotterdam is my favorite Dutch city outside of Amsterdam - not your quaint canal-laced ancient center but brashly modern - climb the Mass Tower or whatever they call it to take it all in - one of the world's largest and most active ports.
The Delftshavn section is still old and canally - it's where the Pilgrims set off from I believe or some of them after fleeing England because of prejudice to tolerant Holland (as this part of The Netherlands is called).
Rotterdam has a slew of museums - I loved them all, especially the Maritime Museum - next to it is a Hollywood Blvd like walk with hand prints in cement of many famous celebrities who played Rotterdam.
Just an hour now by high-speed train from Amsterdam.
Plus I think menachem lives there - well in spite of that Rotterdam is still tops! (joking)

Rotterdam is quite an interesting city in terms of architecture. They took the opportunity from the horrors of war made it livable and interesting.
Many people go to Europe to see the old, and rightly so, but this too should be seen as what can be correctly by integrating urban planning with both practical and playful architecture.
