Hi,
Looking for help with part of our itinerary (August this year). We have a night spare between Rothenburg and Brugge and thought we would travel (by train) from Rothenburg to Koblenz (I'm told the scenery from the train is great) and then take the mid-afternoon KD boat to Linz and stay there. Is that part of the Rhine scenic? Alternatively we could take the train from Rothenburg to Bingen (4 hours), then take the afternoon KD boat to Braubach and stay there that night, then travel to Brugge the following morning (although that's a long train journey). Would appreciate your thoughts and ideas. Thanks.

Koblenz to Linz is not as scenic. I'd do this.
Morning train to Koblenz. Stow bags in locker, catch train to Linz (about 30 min.) for a look around. Back to Koblenz for bags, night in Braubach. Sample schedule:
Rothenburg: 9:06
Koblenz: 13:11
Koblenz 13:47
Linz: 14:23
Linz: 17:35
Koblenz: 18:14
Koblenz: 18:24
Braubach: 18:36
Next Morning: You will already have traveled through the scenic section between Bingen and Koblenz by train the day before. If you decide to see more, take the train from Braubach (8:07) south to Rüdesheim (8:52), catch the 9:15 northbound boat back to Braubach, arrive 12:20. (Morning boats are a better bet since it can be stiflingly hot in August.) Then fetch bags, grab lunch, and proceed from Braubach (13:53) by train to Bruges (19:00.)
Alternatively: Tour the best Rhine castle - Marksburg, right in Braubach (opens at 10 am for tours.) Then catch a train to Bruges.
Sounds like a good plan. Thanks so much.
