Rosenborg Castle

It is my understanding that handbags, camera bags, jackets, umbrellas and/or backpacks are not allowed inside of Rosenborg Palace. What is a tourist to do with all their belongings? are cameras/video cameras allowed? is picture taking allowed?

Yes, Cameras and video cameras are allowed as is picture taking. YOu can take in your purse or jacket or smaller items, but usually a back back or larger items are not. In the same area that you get your ticket are lockers where you can store your stuff. Also a place to hang your coats or jackets if you wish not to mess with them. The cost of the locker is 20 kroner but when you retrieve your items you get the money back Have a lovely time in Copenhagen!!

thanks for your quick response. as a rule, are there plenty of available lockers? I heard that there is a possibility that empty lockers may not be available.

No problem!

I suppose there is always the possiblity that there won't be available lockers!! However there was a good amount of lockers and we had plenty available ones to choose from. Rosenborg isn't usually as crowded as some of the other places around the city. I suoppose worst case, there are no lockers and you have to hop across the street to the Statens Museum for Kunst (Art Museum) and put your stuff in one of their lockers!! While they will probably frown upon this, I also doubt anyone would even notice!! I'm sure you will have plenty of space at Rosenborg!

did you enjoy Rosenborg Palace? was it worth the time? How about Christiansborg Palace? Did you go there? If so how was it? We're planning on possibly seeing both.

I did enjoy Rosenborg and it actually did not take up much time... 30-45 minutes maybe? The jewels are geourgous and worth a look! The outside is beautiful and while smaller then most of the other castles in Denmark the gardens are beautiful and extensive. (and a great place to people watch if you enjoy that)

I actually have never made it inside Christiansborg Palace. I have been on the outside many times. The outside is worth a look, but can't say much about the inside. Maybe someone else will read though this and have some first had expirence with its interior.

Hope that helps a little bit!

We toured both Rosenborg and Christiansborg earlier this year and they are very different. We liked both but enjoyed Christiansborg more. Christiansborg is where the Queen meets with dignitaries and the tour includes a good overview of who is who in the history of the royal family. Rosenborg was aptly described by an employee there as the royal attic. It was never used as a residence and currently holds the royal family heirlooms. The treasury in the basement is interesting but not as spectacular in my opinion as the British crown jewels. We took a tour at Rosenborg with Richard Karpen. He added a lot to Rosenborg and I would recommend that you try to use his tour since I think we would have missed a bit without his explanations. If you plan to tour Christiansborg make sure you are on time for the tour as they close the door when the bells sound the hour. We had no trouble getting lockers at Rosenborg despite it being very crowded so I would not be concerned about that issue. We were told that you could take cameras into Rosenborg but there was a fee to take photos. No cameras were allowed in Christiansborg. Lockers are provided there as well for all of your belongings.
