Rome: Vittorio Emanuele Monument
I know you can get some great views from the top, but what is inside that huge monster? I head some of the inside rooms sometimes have art displayed? True?

Yes, there are different displayes that shows a bit about Italian history if I remember correctly. There are paintings, old weapons, etc etc. My wife and I went to Rome in July this year and we went through it...but I can't really remember that much of it

Different exhibits run there at different times of the year. Usually outside you'll see some info on the name of the exhibit and when it's open to the public, and if there's a charge for admission what that is. And yes, the view from the top is pretty great.

There is a historical museum in the monument, the Museo del Risorgimento.
And they also put on temporary exhibitions there. At the moment, it's an Edouard Manet show: mostly prints and drawings, a few paintings.
Hidden somewhere in that huge pile of blinding white marble there is also the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
