Rome & Venice in 5 days

My college age daughter (21) and three of her friends will be spending 5 days in Italy in July. They are planning to fly into Rome and spend 2 days. They will then take the train to Venice and spend 2 days there before returning to London. I know this seems like a crazy, fast trip but they are young and strong and really don't have more time and want to hit the highlights. They need tips on places to stay while in Rome and Venice, cheap but in a safe location, and hopefully walking distance to the main attractions. Any other tips would also be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Cheap means different tongs to different people. What is their actual budget?? Quad rooms are pretty scarce so they'd probably need to book two rooms or stay in dorm rooms in hostels.

Try booking.com and search for '4 adults'. I have stayed in quad rooms in both cities, although it was years ago that I stayed in quads, but there are quite a few that pop up on booking.com

They can stay in a hostel. The budget would be approximately $150.00 -$200.00 dollars per night.

If your daughter's friends are all women, there's a hostel in Rome, in a former monastery in a great location, in Trastevere, that's for women only.

Four people traveling together often can do better by renting a quad room in a budget hotel. I use www.booking.com to find lodging. You can enter the destination as "Rome city centre" or "Venice city centre" to make sure you won't be out in the boondocks. Then you can sort the list by price or guest rating. Be sure to read the guest reviews.

I'm wondering, though, why these young women aren't doing their own research? I certainly wouldn't do that kind of research for my daughters. If anything wasn't to their liking, it would be my fault.

Is that for all four? If so that only equals €25-€35 pp per night. Probably doable in Rome but difficult in Venice. Some of the rooms at the hostel bvlenci linked will fit that budget.
