Rome to Spoleto-June 2-Trenitalia Strike! Ticket question.

My group of 4 ladies will be arriving in Rome on Sunday, June 2 at 9:30 am. We are then going on to Spoleto by train from Roma Termini.

Unfortunately there is a national Trenitalia strike on that day. I know that a few trains are guaranteed to run, mostly during commuting hours. Very few of them will be going to Spoleto. We have the option of a guaranteed Intercity train leaving at 3:25 or a guaranteed regional trian leaving about an hour later.

If the strike is not cancelled or rescheduled shortly before we leave, I am planning on purchasing tickets on the Intercity train to make sure that we have seats.

My question is, if the strike is called off after I purchase the Intercity train tickets, will I be able to exchange them for Regional train tickets for a train leaving earlier than the 3:25 Intercity train?

It will be a very long day indeed!!

Leslie V
