Rome to Naples

Our flight into Rome leaves us with an hour and 25 minutes before we transfer to the plane to Naples. We need to transfer from terminal 1 to terminal 2, I think it was. Are we going to have a problem making that connection?

Wondering if we miss the flight, should we take the train to Naples instead? Didn't notice the terminal change until now.... Thanks in advance!

Where are your bags?
You will likely make the connection--not sure about the bags.

You have to go through immigration - which can take a long time, depending on how many places land on time.

If everything goes perfectly you have some chance of making it - but if the plane is late, a bunch of planes land at the same time you may not make it and your luggage very likely won't. (I have landed at Rome several times when it took more than 2 hours from wheels down out to the street.)

We assume that we will need to take our luggage through customs and then reload it for the Naples flight, or is that just the way it is in the states.... We thought that if we take control of our luggage in Rome through customs, we could take the train instead.... No? We are flying Alitalia on both legs of the trip.

Normally you check your bags through to your final destination. I don't see any need to pick them up in Rome and recheck them for the Naples flight. If your plane ticket is to Naples then that is where your bags will go.

Do you have and hour and 25 minutes before you transfer to the Naples plane or before the Naples plane takes off? If that's the time from landing to take off then you might have a rush to get to your connection.

You mention that both planes are Alitalia. They will therefore check your bags straight through to Naples and will also know that you are on the plane into Rome.

Their timings will allow you to catch the Naples flight unless you are seriously delayed into Rome.

No you can not take the train instead. If you miss a leg of a flight it cancels the rest of your plane ticket so your return home would be cancelled.

Thank you. Good to know we don't have to recheck our bags in Rome. I guess our only choice is to pray we make the flight to Naples, and if not, get the next plane out.

Does anyone know how much time we will lose going from one terminal to another in Rome?

We will need to get from terminal 3 to terminal 1. Alitalia told us we would walk from one part of the terminal to terminal 1, but they couldn't say how long it would take.

How long it will take depends on:

Where you are seated in the plane - those in the last row deplane at least 10 minutes later than those in the front

How long the line at immigration is

How briskly you can walk - or trot - through the airport

There is no way for us to know exatly

I understand about the plane and immigration and the gates, but I was just trying to get an idea of about how long a walk it is for an average person. We are brisk walkers. Really, I'm not looking for exacts here.... Just wondering if anyone knows the airport and has gone from terminal 3 to 1 and can give us an approximation. Thanks.

Thanks for the maps. Hard to tell how long it will take to walk it, but at least I can see the layout of the terminals.
