Might be a silly question, but I figure I might as well ask instead of being hit with a surprise once I get to Rome.
My departure flight is at 9:20. I figure that if I take the first Leonardo Express to Fiumicino, I should be fine (Air Canada...not sure if that leaves from the Terminal 5 or not, but it should still give me plenty of time). I was thinking of taking a taxi to termini. The hotel where I am staying looks like it is only a couple blocks from a taxi stand. Are taxis available 24 hours at the taxi stands or is there a block of time where they aren't there? I did read about rates being different before 7am, so I am prepared for that piece of it.
I am also aware of the romecabs and rome shuttle private transfers, but since I am traveling on my own, it's cheaper for me to do the taxi to termini to airport route.

Have your hotel order one the night before for your airport transfer.

I already have that planned as an alternative and there are reasons why I'll use that as a backup instead of Plan A. For now, I only need to know if the taxis are available at the taxi stands 24 hours or not.
Terminal 5 is used only by American carriers and ElAl.
Where is your hotel? There may be other options, but it would depend on hotel location.

I would never count on finding a taxi at a taxi stand exactly when you need one to be there. All the taxis might just have gone off with fares. At any time of day you might have to wait for a taxi to appear. Have your hotel order a taxi for you--no problem.
Why would you walk a couple of blocks with luggage to a taxi stand when you can take one from the front of the hotel?????
Just have the hotel call you a cab.

If your hotel is near the Pantheon, I would be surprised if you couldn't get a taxi within 5-10 minutes at a taxi stand after 6:30 and before 22:50. It's up to you to decide whether you want to take the odd risk. I probably would, but that's me.
There is one that I have used near Albergo del Senato. The one we used quite frequently last winter--and never with any wait--was "above" Piazza Navona on via Giuseppe Zanardelli, I believe. But you might just ask your hotel for their opinion while you are there.
Which day of the week?
Albergo Cesari is on a pedestrian walk-way street leading from the Via Corso towards the Pantheon. An arriving taxi would pick you up on Via de Burro, an intersecting street just to the left as you exit the hotel.
Taxi stands ARE NOT manned 24 hours a day, although at 6:20 AM in that area, you're more likely to find a taxi at a stand. The day before you can call the taxi service yourself (most have English operators) and save a little $$$$, or as suggested, you can have the hotel set up your pick up. From this in-town location, fares are set at €40 for up to four people. If you set up a pick-up and have an Italian cell number, many taxi services will text you as they are "dispatched."
Air Canada does not fly out of T5. You're probably leaving from either Terminal C or B departures. These terminals are connected so you just walk from one to the other on the main level. Prior to the construction of T5, most trans-Atlantic flights left from Terminal C so I'd go there first.... your ticket (or airline site) might also tell you the departure terminal.
Is there a map or a link to the taxi stands in Rome? In partiuclar I am seeking one at the south end of Piazza Navona.

The set fee for a taxi is 40E. You can use www.airportshuttle.it for 25E (they have actually lowered their price) and be picked up right at the hotel door. I have used them seven times and have been very happy with the service.
