ROME REPORT: Transportation from Airport

Just back from Rome. We used www.romeshuttlelimousine.com for transportation from the airport to our hotel. They will take you from the airport to anywhere in Rome for 35 euros. Their service was very good. We communicated last minute via e-mail and they responded promptly (within Italian business hours). Our driver was waiting just outside immigration with a sign. The van was not fancy but was okay. Based on taxi fares we experienced later, this was an economical way to go and very easy after a long overnight flight.

Thanks for the information. Been researching the least expensive way to get to the city from the airport. Sounds like a good price rather than taking the train, then taxi from the station.

Considering that a taxi driver charged us 25 Euro to go from the station to our hotel near Piazza Navona, this sounds like a good deal.

Of course, I know we were ripped off. It was raining, he said he couldn't find the hotel, we were confused, tired, etc.

We had arrived from Arezzo, so the van wouldn't have been an option, but I will save it in my file. Thanks.

A cab is about 50E from the airport into Rome.

Sandy,
was that 35E per person?

SusanP:

With www.airportshuttle.it, it's 26 Euro from Rome to Fiumicino but 31 Euro (if I remember correctly) from Fiumicino to Rome. In any case, there is a price differential between Rome-Fiumicino and Fiumicino-Rome, probably because of the wait time that may be involved on the Fiumicino-Rome trip.

It might interest some travelers to note that, at least on the Rome-Fiumicino trip, an additional person picked up at the same address only costs 6 Euro.

I've found www.airportshuttle.it very reliable; I've used them three or four times.

I have at 7:10 am flight out of FCO. Is hiring a car going to be my only option? I've been looking at the train schedules and it looks like they don't run early enough to get me there. Is there a hotel with a shuttle that I could stay at nearby? This will be my first trip to Rome and I will be traveling alone.

Bookwurm: your hotel should be able to arrange a car for the time you need to leave; they do it every day.
I've done it twice (different hotels, different car services) and enjoyed zooming through pre-dawn traffic-free Rome on a very quick ride to Fiumicino in a comfy Mercedes sedan. Cost was about 45E two years ago.
