Rome or Positano

Hi,

I will be travelling to italy and i have 4 days to spend in rome &/or positano. I was wondering if i should go to positano for a day or just spend all 4 days in rome?

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks!!!

Stay in Rome, as 4 days is not even enought but a decent amount of time. The Amalfi coast is about 4 hours each way using public transport, pretty hard for a day trip, and that does not include the 2 hours or so you need to go along the coast by bus or ferry, plus you would be hurrying through the little towns, would not get a leisurely lunch by the sea, would miss most of the good shopping, and would miss sunrise and sunset, both beautiful. Save the coast for another trip; chill out at a Roman cafe for the afternoon and soak up the ambience.

Oops, let me clarify, i meant staying in positano for one night and not just going there for a day trip.

So you still think its not worth going to Positano and i should just stay in rome?

Thanks!

If you go to Positano for a day, you really won't want to leave. It is beautiful. You are comparing apples to oranges. Rome is full of history, art, magnificent architecture, culture. Positano is charming, laid back vacation spot with a glorious coastline, hillside chiseled villages, and lots of fresh fish and sunshine. They are really two separate trips, or at least 4 days in each. I think you are cramming too much into 4 days, given the travel time. Perhaps if you gave us the rest of the itinerary we could figure how to best juggle your time and maybe cover both areas. Might be something you have not thought of that could change the picture.
