Rome or Florence or Venice?

Rome or Florence or Venice?
Hey! We are planning on visiting Italy in the first week of May from Germany.....but we only have 5 days to spare. Initially I wanted to visit Venice then Florence then Rome then back home, is that too much? Not sure how to plan the trip out? We wanted to visit Cinque Terre too...so remove a city of keep them all? Thank you!

You could do a couple nights in Venice, then take a morning train to Florence, leave your bags at the station, hit the Duomo and walk the Ponte Vecchio, then take a late train to Rome. Or spend one night.
Five of us once did Rome as a daytrip from Florence - - took a morning train, hit the Colisseum, the Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, then did a rush job through the Vatican Museum to see the Sistine Chapel, popped into St. Peters, and got a train back to Florence about 6pm - - I kid you NOT.
If it were me, I would give Venice at least a couple nights, then short-change Florence and/or Rome. Cinque Terre is too far out of the way.

Because arrivals, hotel checking in, checking out, departures, and travel between places takes time, 5 days for the three cities is not really a good idea, as you will have spent nearly all your time coming and going. Venice plus Florence, maybe. Rome only, for sure. Pick fewer places or find more time, and you will be much happier.

Do your five days include travel time from Germany?
Where will you be coming from in Germany?
How will you go from Germany to Italy?
Precisely how much time will you have once you arrive in Italy?
From Rome back home. . . Does that mean you would fly to the states from Rome or someplace back in Germany?
How many people?
May sound nit picky, but with such a short time, details will count and affect greatly what you could do.

There is actually so much to see and do in Rome, it would be a fine experience to do only Rome. If you found you were finished in Rome, you could do a last minute day trip to Florence from Rome.
Venice and Florence would work well with five days and you would have time for a day trip from Florence. Unless you have an interest in particular works of art or the duomo, it would make sense to skip Florence and see Venice and a bit of Rome.
OK then. I would not do this, but I am older and slower. You sound young and energetic. This is super rushed, but you could Fly into Venice, stay near the station so you can get settled quickly and have the afternoon to explore.
First night - Venice
Next day, more sightseeing Venice. Very late in day train to Florence
One night, next day in Florence, catch very late train to Rome.
Rome until time to depart.
You could also do
2 nights Venice,
Early train to Florence, stash luggage at the station and walk in Florence for the afternoon, train to Rome
3 nights, Rome
Whatever you do may seem rushed, but probably fun for you.

In this world there are Venice people, Florence people, and Rome people. I'm more of a Rome person. Tell us a bit about yourself, because otherwise we're just projecting our own preferences onto you.

In <i>my</i> world, all three cities are equally precious and must-see for different reasons. However, if I only had five days in May, I'd pick one and fully immerse myself.
