I am planning my first trip to Rome in June. Can't decide if we should stay in the Old City or very near the Spanish Steps. Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe nobody knows what you mean by the Old city, maybe being more specific you get more answers. Spanish Steps are close to Pza. navona, pantheon, trevi, vatican, all in walking distance.Even the Forum is walkable
Thanks for the tip. The book I'm using refers to the Old City as the area in the bend of the River; specifically around Campo del Fiori.
I prefer Campo del Fiori/Piazza Navona/Pantheon area to SPanish steps. Very convenient. it's also a great area just to explore, eat and shop.
