Trip Report Rome hotels Oct.2015

Jump to last reply

Just a few notes on my hotel in Rome- Hotel Centro. I booked through Hotels.com and had a budget per night of $130.00 give or take as I was only going to be there for two nights. I posted a question before my trip concerning safety and got a few responses. First I took the Leonardo into Termini station. My concern was safety(alone female with luggage) so I decided to take the train to the stop nearest my hotel. No problem everything was so easy at the train station-just follow written directions. I exited the station and dragged my suitcase up to ground level-not cute- and asked for directions from a door man at the huge hotel that was right there. Arrived at my hotel with minor difficulty. This hotel was written up on Hotel.com as a real nice hotel by people that had stayed there. I beg to differ. While the hotel was clean and the people were very nice to me, my room was old and uninviting. There were no frills for real. Nothing but the bed, desk, chair, bathroom, window not even a picture on the wall-paint peeling off the walls. It was located within walking distance of the metro and a decent shopping street. I decided to visit other hotels in the area that were listed on Hotels.com just to see if I overlooked something while doing research. All of the hotels that I visited were the same as the one I booked. They were old, in need of remodeling but near the metro Repubblica. I will not stay in this area again as everything is in need of upgrading. However, if you are only going to stay a day or two I would book at least a double room so you can turn around in it. Rome really needs to up their standards for reasonable rooms or lower the rates so we can all know what we are getting. I went everywhere alone and was not approached at all. I also asked if there were any discounts when I purchased my ticket to Naples and they gave me a good one, I asked again about discounts for my ticket back to Rome and I was looked at as if I was a ghost- NO oh well you never know until you try. Thanks for reading: BLT
