Im going to Rome in October for 3 days with my mom. I have a reservation @ Albergo Abruzzi near the Pantheon. Upon further research, I changed my mind and called other hotels - Cesari, Santa Chiara - and a few others - all are booked! I asked those hotels for reccomendations (after they told me they were booked) and they all said that Albergo Abruzzi was NOT a good place to stay. Now, I need a nice hotel in the 200Euro range. My first choice is the Pantheon/Piazza Navona area, but, since that may not be possible, please reccommed another area and other hotels.
HELP.

Try Hotel Barocco- Via della Purificazione, just off Piazza Barberini. We had a beautiful suite there, with a view of the Barberibi fountain. I have heard some of the rooms are quite small, so ask for one of the larger rooms.

I assume you've already checked the very popular Albergo Del Senato, which faces the Pantheon?

Anyway, I can also recommend the Hotel Pantheon, which is just around the corner from the monument of the same name. The hotel was converted from an ancient monastery, and is a very nice 4-star. None of the rooms have very good views, but they all have extremely comfortable beds and marble bathrooms. The location is hard to beat!

I'm curious. You say you asked those other hotels and they told you that Albergo Abruzzi was NOT a good choice. Did they tell you why? And did they tell you what hotels WERE a good choice?

I'm not sure this is quite what you're looking for, but I stayed at the Artemide Hotel last summer in connection with a business trip. While it's fairly close to the train station (convenient), it's on the "right side of the tracks" (ie not near the seedy area immediately adjacent to the train station). I recall that it was about a 15 minute walk to the Spanish steps etc, but it was nevertheless quite central. My room (for one person) was a little on the small side, but very attractively furnished. The service was good, and the hotel seemed quiet. I'd stay there again.

Wanda,
The Due Torri will fill your need. Stayed there ast year and I can't give it enough praise. Also, it is a favorite on this forum. The rooms rented for 185 euro in 2003. We had a balcony room for that price, and is just north of the Piazza Navona and close to the Trevi, and the Spainish steps. They have a website so you can Goggle Due Torri and get it.

Wanda, Look at the website for the Hotel Teatro Pace -- www.teatropace.com -- to see if it would work for you. From the website, it looks pretty good. This hotel just opened up in May 2004; it is located just west of Piazza Navona. Rates are in the low 100s. Because it is so new there is not much chatter about it on various websites. They have a sense of humar: look at the FAQ section.

I'm in love with the Hotel Franklin in the Prati - clean, non-smoking, small, friendly, modern. Walking distance from the Vatican and a wonderful Sicilian restaurant - Sicilainbocca, but somewhat off the beaten off for other things. Nothing a quick cab or subway ride won't fix. High season a decent room will cost around 187 euro, however we were there during a special offer time, so our room was 157 euro. Check it out!
