Rome for 30 Euros a day - is this possible?
I have a great opportunity to visit Rome for 10 days and stay in a friend's appartment. I don't have much money, but I can't say no to this chance!

If I don't need to pay for a hotel, and I can do most of my cooking at home do you think that a budget of 30 Euros a day is possible? When I travel, I really enjoy just wandering the streets, taking in the sites and maybe visiting a museum or two. Most of my money is usually spent on transportation.

Assuming I don't take any trips outside the city, can I visit Rome on my measly budget or am I dreaming?

definitely do-able. i was just in rome a few weeks ago, and i think it is definitely do-able on a budget if you have things like rent and food already taken care of. there is so much to do that does NOT cost money there, so you should be fine. also, i would definitely agree with at least 1 gelato a day . at LEAST one.

My only thought is, even for 10 days, you might still want to remember to include supplementary medical insurance in your budget. (If you're young, such stuff should be pretty cheap anyway.) The chance you'll need to make use of it is small, but not having it if you do need it could be financially painful.

Other than that, provided you self-cater your food, use public transit, and don't pine after any nightlife, you should be fine.

As long as yo're not buying filet mignon, food/groceries are really fairly inexpensive...and part of the fun could be going to the markets in the morning! We've often bought pasta, veggies, fruit, milk, bread, sodas, water, other stuff for $10 in the store...you can get reallynice wine for $5 or under/bottle. I think if you play it right, you might have enough left over for perhaps a meal or 2 out, certainly enough for daily gelato.
