Rome, Florence, Amalfi Coast itinerary help

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are planning a trip to Rome, Florence, and the Amalfi Coast in mid June and had a few questions as we plan the details:

1. We have currently booked a hotel in Amalfi called Miramalfi - has any one had any experience with this hotel? The online reviews and pictures seem good, but we're slightly concerned that it's not right in the town of Amalfi. It looks like a close walk but weren't sure if the main road is something we'd feel comfortable walking on, especially in the evenings to get dinner etc. We like that the hotel is right on the coast line with pretty views, but aren't sure if it would be better to be in the city.

2. Would people recommend staying in another city rather than Amalfi? It is our first time to this area so we want to make sure we get to experience the culture and beauty and are having a hard time figuring out where that is best experienced from! We know Sorrento, Positano and Ravello are all options as well - would people recommend these towns instead?

3. We have read a lot about the scary roads to get to Amalfi. How do people typically get to Amalfi then, if not by renting a car? We will be arriving in Naples via train in the morning, are hoping to spend a few hours in Pompeii, and then go to Amalfi for a few days. Can we take a bus or a train to do that? I saw there is a train from Naples to Sorrento that stops into Pompeii - would that mean that Sorrento is a better place to stay than Amalfi since it is easier to get to?

4. We are hoping to take an 8am train from Naples to Florence -- would it be possible to get from Amalfi to Naples that morning to catch the train? We are willing to take a taxi if that is the only way, but just wanted to see if people thought this was feasible at all.

5. We are thinking of doing a daytrip to Capri - does anyone recommend a tour company to use? I know these tours can be very weather dependent. Is it better to book once we reach Amalfi or should we pre-book and hope the weather is good?

Thanks!
