Bonjourno,
We are 2 families, one a group of 3 adults and the second 2 adults, 2 children. We are on a very strict budget and therefore have been searching hotels that are close to the metro and take a short trip to the main attractions in rome. Here are two places we are considering:
InternoUno Hotel - 120 euro for 4 people

This is in the University Area. Is it a safe area?
Apartment St joannes in San Giovanni
10 - 15 minutes walking distance to Colloseum

Which would you prefer and why. Thank you very much for your time.

Hi
I don't like the location of either. I prefer to be more central. Try the Maria Hostel - http://www.mariahostel.com. Has the use of a kitchen to cut your costs further.
San Giovanni has the same problem I mentioned before, with Line A of the metro not working after 9 PM. San Giovanni does have trams and likely buses, I think.
Thanks WillTravel. I was hoping the San Giovanni location would be close enough to catch buses if we decided to go home later than 9pm or even walk if necessary. Based on your previous comments we decided to try to find some place closer than the Don Bosco at the Giulio Agricola station. Thanks again.
You're welcome...
Sorry Worldinabag I didnt mean to forget you. I checked the website you mentioned. Very good prices, great locations. I didnt see mention of air conditioning and it looks like shared bathrooms. The no AC doesnt bother me but we have 1 person in the group who requires it. Thank you for taking the time comment.
Laurie
That's cool. There is private bathrooms, see here - http://www.mariahostel.com/english12.html. If you're still interested email them to check for aircon. The location is handy in that it is in walking distance to most attractions.
The Tiburtina station area is rather seedy although it's also a major bus hub. Try to find somewhere closer to the historic center. Maybe it would be cheaper for everyone to rent a villa together instead of separate rooms or apartments.
