Rome - Borghese Tickets

I've seen a few posts on purchasing tickets for Villa Borghese Museum.

I'm looking for the most recent official web site to purchase these tickets and what the current restrictions are for what you can bring in and what has to be checked.

Thanks.

I bought my ticket here:
http://www.tosc.it/tickets.htm?affil...78&language=en

Basically, EVERYTHING has to be checked, and I found the signage at the desk confusing.

Also, the entrance to the museum is difficult to find--the only sign is a small one on the basement door entrance, and since it was "open" it wasn't visible until you walked up to it.

You can keep your wallet in a small bag you get there (unless that's changed since my last visit).

You have to pick up your tickets in one line and then get in another line to check your things.

Get there early to get ticket and check bag before your allotted entrance time. There are lines for each and you don't want to still be checking bags, etc. using up your visiting time after your time starts.

I just checked on Google Maps.

It shows that from our hotel to the museum is either a 25 minute walk or 15 minutes by car.

It's tempting to do our sightseeing until 1 1/2 hours before our time, drop all of our things (my DSLR camera, wife's purse, etc) that don't fit in our pockets at the hotel and either walk or taxi to the museum depending upon the weather and timing.

That way we avoid the check line coming and going.

Is 30 minutes before the scheduled time sufficient for the ticket line?

What do others do about this?

That might not be a bad idea--saves you one line at least.

I don't think I've ever seen a gallery with a worse process. The area where the lines are is really narrow and broken up, and because of the fixed times, really crowded. The exit is through the same narrow area, adding to the mess.

If you decide to go on a guided tour, make sure they give you the audio receiver along with the headphone. The employees were remarkably unhelpful.

You didn't say where your hotel is, but if walking from many nearby areas it will be all uphill.

That's exactly what we did. We left everything at our hotel except for our tickets, a tiny bit of cash, and our passports and walked to the Borghese. It was a bit of a hike for us (and yes, a lot of uphill work), as our hotel was on the Aventine Hill, but we timed it so that we would arrive about 40 minutes before our entry time. We queued to have our tickets checked, by avoided the line to check paraphernalia.

Our hotel is between the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain.

I've gone to the top of the Spanish Steps but for some reason never walked through the actual park/gardens.

Taking a taxi looks like a good idea.

The top of the Spanish Steps only puts you at the bottom of the park. It's a good distance uphill from there. If you go in the metro at the Spanish Steps and follow directions for the escalators to Via Veneto, you will find a long series of escalators that can take you part of the way (perhaps half, but you will probably have to do some stairs also). After you exit all the escalators, you still have some uphill walking (I've forgotten exactly where the escalators ended as it's been a few years and I usually took the no longer running 116 electric bus instead).

If you've not been through the Villa Borghese (park) it's a lovely walk downhill back to the center. It's especially nice on weekends and in pleasant weather. Lots of Roman life to observe and take part in.

It doesn't take long to wonder.

Why is there a seating chart on the ticket purchasing site?
