Rome accommodation, family of 4 - 4 days
Does anyone have a recommendation for lodging (apt or hotel) in Rome for family with 2 kids, 10 and 17? First trip for them, and only 4 days there. What are areas to avoid in Rome for travel neophytes? Tips?

We are staying here (link below) in July. Haven't been there yet, so we are hoping it's good, but the pictures are promising. We are a family of 4 as well, and hotels just didn't work well, without getting two of them. This apartment is near the Spanish Steps. Folks on this board and others have said that's in the middle of things. Good luck!

My first to Rome was with my husband. We stayed near at a pension near the Spanish Steps. Very good location. Our second trip was with my grown kids with their spouses. We rented an apartment near the Colosseum. I used this site to find our apartment - http://www.city-apartments-rome.com/
Just be careful and be aware of your surroundings esp with gypsies. You'll be able to spot them. We had a mob who surrounded us trying to confuse us - a simple no didn't seem to deter them. We practically had to shout a big no before they left us.

we stayed at https://www.romesweethome.it/apartme...nt.asp?lang=it
i am not sure if this apt. is right for you but they have many others. have stayed near Trevi, vatican and campo di fiore.
I prefer the Campo area. It puts you in the middle of everyday life and I think the kids would enjoy it too.

I often suggest this apartment in rome http://www.thesmartcactus.com/eng/ap...e/pitomba.html for 6 pax. It's in good area: Piazza del Popolo in the centre of Rome. You are very clo to the Colosseum, Spanish step, Piazza Navona etc.
Also the metro is very close and there are many busses lines around the area.
Prices are good so good luck for your trip!!!!!!!!!!!

I stayed here with family late 2008/early 2009:

We liked it. It's pretty old school, though--not for everyone. Oh, and it's quite a few flights up, which didn't bother any of us, including my 68-year-old mother.
I have also rented by Campo dei Fiori from realrome.com if you are looking for more budget accommodations. They are great to work with.
For four days, I'd try to find some place in the center (Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Jewish Ghetto) or very nearby (Colosseo, Foro Romano, Trastevere, around Piazza del Popolo or Monti perhaps).
I love Rome! Have a great trip.
