I have been to Paris numerous times, but always solo. This time my girlfriend and I will be going in february. While I know that most of Western Europe is fairly gay friendly, would we fair well in a romantic restaurant in Paris? I "pass" for straight while my girlfriend, well, looks gay, if that makes any difference. It's not like we'd be making out in the restaurant, but this is her first trip to Europe and I want to make sure she feels comfortable.
Any recommendations on a restaurant? We're both fairly adventerous eaters, but the restaurant doesn't have to be super fancy. Just something fairly quiet and cozy where we can enjoy a meal and our time together. We plan on having most of our meals at cafes etc, but would like to have one "nice" meal while there.
thanks!
Romantic restaurant in Paris..for a lesbian couple?

The only place I can recalling seeing openly gay couples in Paris is in the Marais district.
http://www.parismarais.com/gay-restaurants-in-le-marais-paris.htm
^ I should qualify that with saying that I mean I've seen same-sex couples holding hands.
on that list, I've been to Le Tresor. It is romantic and a mixed crowd, gay and straight, good food.
If you are not going to make out, who cares what your preferences are..you can eat anywhere you want and feel comfortable.
Are you both planning to visit Berlin as well?
I can't imagine anyone cares anywhere in the city, but the recommendation for the Marais is a good one.
My recommendation is Le Petit Prince near the Sorbonne. It's gay-friendly, not strictly gay or lesbian, but it was the highlight of my trip last May. I can't recommend it enough.
I like Le petit Prince but I would not call it romantic!
What does it take to be romantic? <G>
romantic lighting, tables not too close together, pretty environment
(good food included)
I thought it met that standard, but that's just me.
Well, the tables ARE close together, but the food is wonderful, the owners are sensational, and there are usually only a couple "girl" couples so they will welcome you with open arms (literally).
Aux Trois Petits Cochons
31, Rue Tiquetonne

Le Petite Prince is extremely gay-friendly also and is quite good, but there's something more "special" about Aux Trois Petits Cochons.
I don't think you will have a problem in any of the tourist areas. Out in les banlieues(Clichy) that's different.
Le Petit Picard in the Marais at 42 rue Ste.-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie is a wonderful bistro with a romantic ambience and good food. Just down the street is Le Gai Moulin, which is not as romantic but lots of fun with good food as well.
Aux Trois Petite Couchons sounds wonderful..I'm looking at their website and also looked at a few others.
Ekscrunchy, not Berlin on this trip, though I have been on my own. We will also be in Amsterdam. Yeah, I know nobody in Paris really cares if anyone is gay or straight, but sometimes it is nice to "get away" and go to a gay bar or restaurant where you really truly can feel comfortable holding hands.
Le Petit Picard also sounds good..are reservations needed for either of these places?
My (male) partner and I feel completely comfortable everywhere we go in Paris.
But we had a lovely meal at Le Petit Lutetia, 107 Rue de Sevres, in the 7th.
There were two women dining together when we were there. I have no idea whether or not they were a couple.
Excellent food. A typical art nouveau cafe. Very nice, attentive staff. I highly recommend it.
TTT
I would second Le Petit Picard, but sadly it changed hand a little while ago and the food went down....which is a same because it was always a valeur sur and a great rapport qualité-prix.
Le Gai Moulin is fun, especially on piano night, but the food is hit and miss and the atmosphère is anything but romantic.
Les Trois Petits Cochons has always, always good food, interesting cuisine, the service is ok but the tables are really close, even by Parisian standard. You will be part of your neighbourg conversation like it or not. We like it but not for romance (IMHO)
I would try Mèmère au Piano if I was you.
My husband and I had lunch at a sidewalk table at Le Fumoir, near the Louvre. We'd been there once before, dining inside. At the next table were a couple of women who appeared to be "a couple". They made us feel uncomfortable with their behavior, as would have a male/female couple. I don't know if that restaurant/bar especially appeals to gays but we like the food and atmosphere and location.
Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Btw, I want to change something in my OP..she is no longer by girlfriend, she is my fiancee. She proposed to me last night
Paris should be lovely indeed!!
Congratulations and best wishes for your trip a deux!
Congrats.
virtual champagne to you!
Congratulations to you both. My niece proposed to her girlfriend in Paris in 2005. They were legally married in Montreal in 2006 and we had a major wedding reception in California in 2007.
They loved Paris (of course!) and had absolutely no issues with going anywhere together as an obvious couple.
Hi MissZ,

Congratulations.
Does this mean that you will now make out at the resto?
Congrats!!!! I was married this past November!
You're going to have such a great wedding!!! (I'm jealous, I want to have another wedding!). . .Do some wedding attire shopping in Paris, will you?
Thanks everyone. I'm so excited. Hmmm shopping for wedding attire in Paris would be fun..hadn't thought of that!
My mind is whirling with ideas..we decided on December 6, 2008 for the wedding..it's a year away, but so much to do!!!!
Can't wait to get back to Paris..my favourite city in the world, and always relaxing!
Le Petit Prince is a very nice gay-friendly restaurant near SOrbonne.
Very good meals and not so expansive
so, how did it turn out? Where did you have dinner?
If you want to spend a little, try Beauvilliers in Montmartre. Beautiful place.
Paris it doesn't matter if you are gay or not, very open minded city. If you want to hang out at bars, chat to locals, eat in local places, then Le Marais is the best area.
Fun lesbian bar called the W in Rue des Escouffes, very relaxed great for a few drinks after dinner.
I just read on another post that Miss Ziegfeld was just leaving for Europe on Feb. 27, so perhaps they aren't back yet. They might be dining in Paris right now!
