Romania - Good destination for 2017

Hello everybody,

I would like to speak about Romania, a wonderful country unknown for some of us, which deserve to be seen.

I've lived in Bucharest, capital of Romania, for 2 years now and I traveled a lot across the country (like twice a week). What I've found here convince me to stay here forever in order to see everything in the country.

In Romania, there are a lot of beautiful accommodations. I like to visit boutique mansions, but I also visited some guesthouses amazing, with hosts very kinds.

There are a lot of beautiful landscape, with 33% of mountains, 33 of valley and 33% of plain. Everybody can find his style, there is also Black sea.

A magnificent historical heritage, a lot of castle, fortified church and monastery.

Finally, a wonderful culture, with specific food, traditions...

If you're interested by visiting Romania, I recommend you to do it by yourself, by renting a car in order to discover touristic and non-touristic places.

If you're are interested by discovering Romania, it's difficult to find a lot of information, so I've built a website ( http://lejean-travels.com/en/homepage/ ) with several articles about accommodations, restaurants, natural and historic monuments and finally, articles about my trips in Romania.

Hoping it will be helpful for you, I stay enable for your questions and wish you a wonderful day.

Loris Lejean

Hi
Thanks but I don't see why it is difficult to find info on Romania.
I have not been as lucky as you and have not visitied the mountains nor valleys.
So I just got stuck in some ugly places and Bucharest, which I find the least interesting capital of Europe.
And the food has never appealed to me where I was.
But I'm pretty sure Romania has great places, I just hope you are not making only adverstising here...

Hi,
It's difficult to get information in Romania because tourism is still not involved as France or other touristic country. There are some website about Romania, as the Office of tourism but I think it's quiet difficult to build a trip plan with. Also books like Routard are quiet old and I prefer, from my point of view, something on mobile phone.
The most difficult is when you're in some monuments, it's very difficult to get info about the story one. I mean not about Bran castle or Peles castle, but small ones.

Where have you been in Romania, how have you prepared your trip ?
About Bucharest, I can't really talk about comparison but to be honest, I needed like more than one year, even living there, to discover that it's an amazing place. There are small treasure but you need to know them, this is where my blog comes trough.

No I'm not making advertising here, at least not only, of course, I don't want to put what I wrote on my blog on this blog, it would seriously be a large task, but I'm sure that here, I could maybe convince someones to visit Romania
Have a nice day.

I found Lonely Planet perfectly adequate for travel in Romania. I have been twice, once in 2006 and again a couple of years ago.

I used a car and driver for the north in 2006, but buses and trains were fine in the south for the second trip (click on my name for the TR for that visit). I had a welcome guide in Bucharest, but otherwise I traveled on my own.

My welcome guide, whom I would recommend, now runs tours:

Hi thursdaysd

That looks very interesting, I haven't known that guide, his website is pretty cool

Could you give me some some info about, like how much have you paid him for the tour in Bucharest and for how long time ? What have you liked and what not ?

I'm very interesting because I want to be guide this coming summer (for french people, my English is so bad ^^) and I would like to get some tips from professional but also from clients.

I would thank you very much thursdaysd

Have a nice evening

He is a she. I did not pay her, she was a volunteer guide when I was with her in Bucharest.

Be very careful about appearing to promote your website or your services on Fodors. Advertising is not allowed and will get you banned: you are close to that already.

As you have travelled quite a lot thru Romania would really appreciate if you could advise if walking independently thru the country is safe. 2 English fit seniors planning a walking holiday to include Romania in 2018. Idea is to pick two locations as a base and spend several days walking from base. Appreciate any advice you can offer.

I didn't do that myself, but I would not have worried about it. Friends of mine were there in 2014 and did do quite a bit of walking. Suggest reading their blog:
