Romania: 8 to 9 day tour tips/suggestions

I will be going to Romania this May for 8 to 9 days.

I will be landing in Bucharest and then probably hop a train that day to Brasov.
The Key places I want to see is Brasov, Sighisoara, and then go to Maramures (rent a car there and drive around). after I finish I will be going directly to Budapest.

I'm looking for any suggestions for other things/places I should consider.
or maybe comments on these areas. In which order should I visit these places?

Thank you for any help!!

We had an incredible time in Romania a few years ago. For more ideas, you can take a look at my trip report:

Your choices and sequence are fine. Brasov is nice and Sighisoara is quite lovely, but the Maramures were the highlight for us. Allow plenty of time there and stay in a local guesthouse.

Hi,

Your itinerary looks fine, but here are some suggestions:

Before you arrive Brasov, you should stop at Sinaia to visit the former royal residence at Peles Castle. Around Brasov you should take into account visits at Bran Castle, Rasnov fortress, Prejmer and Harman fortified churches. On your way to Sighisoara you could stop at Viscri and Saschiz to get a glance of the rural life in the former Saxon Villages.

You should also consider the possibility to visit Bucovina, for the beautiful landscapes and the painted monasteries.

If you're willing to reschedule the itinerary, you should think about visiting also the city of Sibiu, the former European Capital of Culture in 2007, and Alba Iulia, with its recently restored Vauban fortress, but if you're using public transportation it would be very difficult for you to reach all of this places in just 9 days.

I have several other segments of photos or Romania and Bulgaria if you wish to see them. I'm an amateur but they will give you an idea of what to see and do. Your one limitation is time...8 days will not take in half of what you see herein. Two weeks minimum.

You may want to take a look at my trip report. It's getting old, but the tourist sights have not changed; click on my name to find it.

We plan to return and are now looking at September. Still in early stages while looking at tour options and air. Considering a private tour. Some local Romanian companies look good but many quite strange so present time options include US based Kutrubes Travel and General Tours (the latter has more limited tour options).
