road trip Ireland

Jump to last reply

Hi there, I am needing to drive from Kilkenny to Galway. Thought I would stop 1 night on the way through. Is Limerick not the right choice? I like some of the things it has to offer. But I am open for suggestions.
I am driving my 83 year old dad and my 10 year old son. So I thought the break in the trip would be nice.

Also have I picked the right amount of days of staying in places. This was before I had thought of Limerick.
Dublin 2 day.
Kilkenny (taking dad to Ballylinch Stud)
Galway for 2 days
Dingle for 2 days
Cork for 3 days ( 1 day is at the races for my dads birthday)
Stop at Kildare for the Irish National Stud
Finish in Dublin

It would be easier to understand if you state in terms of where you are staying nights. When people post in terms of days, they tend to double count the same day.

Just to show you just how ambiguous Galway 2 days can mean:
    - 1 night, 2 calendar days, but 0 usable day arriving in the afternoon and leaving in the morning.
    - 1 night, 2 calendar days, but 1 usable day total arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon the next day
    - 2 nights, 3 calendar days, 1 usable day, arriving in the PM, a full day, leaving in the AM
    - 2 nights, 3 calendar days, 3 usable days, arriving in the AM, full day, leaving in the PM.

I see that you are crisscrossing the country. I presume this is due to need to be in Cork on a specific day? If you can rearrange it, and if you are arriving from a place without much jet lag issue, if you do Galway-Dingle-Cork-Kilkenny-Kildare-Dublin(on one piece), you can do the same thing while completely eliminating two stays (Limerick and second stay in Dublin) thereby making the trip less hectic and less packing/unpacking.
