Road Trip - Ireland, Scotland and England

Hi Everyone, I'd love some idea on planning a trip later this year. My partner and I will be travelling from Australia to visit relatives in and around London, and thought we'd take the opportunity to have a look around Ireland and Scotland.

We are flying into Dublin, where we'll spend a couple of days, and then grab a car for about a week.

Then over to Edinburgh where we'll do the same, driving north into the Highlands, and then right down through to the South of England over the next two weeks.

So I'm looking for help in setting up an itinerary of great places to visit all along the way.

We love Old Architecture and History, and I'm a keen (very) amateur photographer, so great photo opportunities are always a hit. We're Outlander fans, so intend to see Culloden and other series spots in Scotland.

Finally, I'm a car nut, so any great Car museums or factory type tours would be of interest also.

Very keen to hear some thoughts

Best Regards,
Dave.

I suggest you browse the Nation Trust website for places, particularly historic houses & gardens, to visit. I suggest you join for free entry & parking and to have their book of the 500+ places, to plan and to have with while you travel, also good for entry to National Trust for Scotland sites: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/

The oldest parts of Scotland are in Orkney, where structures from before the Pyramids exist.

Beaulieu (near Southampton) (pron. bew-lee rather than the more obvious Bo-Liu) has a national car museum. There is a national motorbike museum in Coventry/Warwick.

Factories; I think you can visit the Morgon and Mini without buying and possibly the Jag. Nissan, Toyota, landrover are all possibles. TVR went bust when the Russian's bought it so no luck there. All breakages must be paid for.

If you like train museums, probably the greatest (in the world) is in York and is free.

From Dublin with only a week then probably across to Galway for a couple of days or so. A night in Ennis after driving past the Cliffs and a few points, then Killarney for a couple of days or so and finally Cork before dropping your car and flying Cork to Scotland.

Be aware that driving in Ireland you won't cover the miles as quickly as you might do back home.

Definitely ditto to the Morgan Factory and the Transport museum in York. Beaulieu is great. BUT w/ sites from Hampshire to the Malverns to Scotland -- two weeks really isn't long enough. When figuring your routes, plan on about 35 mph on average (40 if you are VERY lucky)
