Road trip in Ireland
Hello,
My friends and I are planning a trip to Ireland in mid-late October this year and one spot we had planned to visit was Dingle. Our road trip would start in Galway and end up in Dublin exploring the southern parts of the island. However I have just recently read that around this time Dingle can shut down until March. (I understand we are traveling out of season but it's the only time I can go) My purpose of heading that way was to drive the Dingle Peninsula and also explore the town but I am wondering what exactly "shut down" means?
Probably sounds silly but depending on what is entailed in that would likely influence if we make our way down there or skip it and drive the ring of Kerry instead.
Any information would be appreciated thank you in advance.
Also I'm expecting shorter days because of the time of year, suggestions on maybe how long we shouldn't try to drive in one day would be helpful as well as we are still deciding where all to stop
Thanks again!

Daylight saving doesn't kick in until Oct. 29. Your sunrise will be late-ish until then, a bit after 8AM, but evenings are still in daylight until half past six or so.
The driving question is answerable better in terms of time than distance - the slow speed on narrow roads and the many sights for which you want to stop but have to find a place to turn out and maybe walk back - they eat up time and energy. You may look back on a day's driving and find that you covered surprisingly little distance.
See what viamichelin and google maps suggest, then subtract a great deal so that you're not being rushed.

Dingle functions for Tourism hence outside the September to St Pats period so a lot of places wind down with a few exceptions. The Scenery doesn't and the peninsula is well worth seeing.
Whilst folk will tell you not to plan on the Cliffs of Moher because of winter weather. I might be the only one to point out that Slea Head is on the same coast and gets the same weather. Same goes for the Ring of Kerry and my beloved Beara.

Thanks so much for all the info and links! Perhaps we will still visit and just not spend as much time there as we had planned. One of these days I will visit in the summer but I'm also a big fan of winter weather and rain Thanks again
