Road trip Cinque Terre to Nice or ST

Hello everybody !!

Need some help because have been searching and searching...

Will be in Italy working- Umbria , and was thinking after work 3 august to go on our summer holidays.
So the plan is drive to cinque Terre stay 2-3 days, ( have been there before but didn't enjoy it,) then drive up to Monaco. See Nice , Cannes, and maybe Saint -Tropez.

So , any suggestions on where to stay? Should we have a home base? Should we do it? Is it worth all this driving and klm.? I'm the only one driving. Cause after will be driving back down to Umbria.

Would like some time at the beach.. And don't want to pay an arm and a leg on accommodation.

Thank u so much for any help and insights!!!

If you didn't enjoy it before -- you are unlikely to enjoy it in the crowds of August.

>> . . . And don't want to pay an arm and a leg on accommodation. <<

You are thinking of some pretty expensive places

You don't mention how much time you have, so it's rather difficult to say.

<<have been searching and searching...>> And you came up with Monaco, Nice, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez? I think a little more searching is in order. And yes, August in those places will likely cost a few limbs.

Why don't you just go down the coast of Italy to Sperlonga or Gaeta or Anzio or the island of Ponza?

I wouldn't go to any of those places in August.

I'm not sure "managed" is the way I'd like to remember my vacations, especially costly ones. There are a zillion lovely seaside places in Italy, never mind France, that aren't frightfully expensive or jammed with tourists. Keep searching and good luck.
