Road closure to Linderhof October 2017

The Linderhof website mentions road construction and closure http://schlosslinderhof.de/englisch/...t/howtoget.htm

I can't figure out if this means we can't get to it at all or if we have to take an alternative route...

TIA!

The way I interpret it is that ONE of the two road routes will be closed, not both.

SORRY, I just looked again and can see why you would be concerned but I cannot imagine there is not some alternate route. I say that because if every road was closed for six weeks does that mean the palace would also be closed? the site doesn't say so.

As I understand it, the road climbing up from Garmisch to Ettal has works that may mean delays and queues. If only one lane is open, the traffic will be at alternating times.

The road from Reutte to Linderhof is now under repair (but it has very limited traffic) and will be completely closed. This concerns only the few people coming from Reutte as the main access is from the Ettal/Oberammergau side.

We emailed Linderhof and received the following response:

From Schwangau, you can still reach Linderhof palace, even St2060 is closed. Drive B17 to Steingaden and take St2059 towards Oberammergau/Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Then B23 to Oberammergau. After Oberammergau, you take St2060 to Linderhof.

My thought exactly Dukey1...couldn't imagine how they shut it all down.

You nailed it asps. I didn't realize the Oberammergau was the main access. Google wants me to go via Reutte.

Thanks for all your help!

Go via Oberammergau and stop there for a walk around. A little woodshop on the road from Ettal is half the price of in town woodshops. Great Christmas gifts. The gardens at Linderhof were beautiful.
