Revised Italy &France honeymoon in July. How does it look now?
After much research and reading the boards daily, I hopefully have come up with a workable itinerary. Many thought we were trying to do too much in 2 weeks. So, all but one stop in France has been deleted.
Hopefully some of our questions can be answered about our itinerary
Here it is:

Day 1: arrive in Rome early morning, catch an afternoon bus tour to check out sights, staying at Rinascimento 2 nights. (anyone else stayed here before?)

Day 2- See more sights in Rome (skipping Vatican and most museums)

Day 3,4,5- to Siena, Hotel Minerva 3 nights(reviews on this place?)
Plan on day trips to San G. and a few Chianti wineries

Day 6- head to Pisa, few hours at sights, on to Monterosso- 3 nights at Hotel Palme (any ideas on this place?? So many already booked!-another option was Portovenere 3 nights and visit CT area. Any feedback on this option instead?)

Day 7,8- Cinque Terre area

Day 9- Head to Paris, 3 nights is Paris at Bac Saint-Germain

Day 10,11- Paris sights

Day 12- Chunnel to London, - 2 nights (not sure where?? Looked at Cherry Court hotel. Need omewhere close to Vic. station for early morning flight out of Gatwick)

Day 13- sights in London

Day 14- Fly out

We already have our flight into Rome and out of London (relatives in London area to visit) so that is set in stone.

We still haven't decided on train, bus or car for Siena and surrounding areas. What might be best for what we want to do there? (wineries, day trips) We also aren't sure how we are getting from Monterosso to Paris. Was told that there is a high speed train out of Genoa or Milan and takes about 5 hours. Does anyone have info. about that? Are we going to need a Eurail pass too?

Since you are young, why don't you try a bike tour of the wineries. My son took one from Florence and he said it was an absolutely spectacular experience. He is not an overly experinced biker. I am sure your hotel can tell you about such trips. If you want a special meal in London try the Bombay Brasserie and Fermette Marboeuf in Paris. Enjoy. You will need a rest when you return. Your itinerary is quite ambitous.

Wine tasting and biking?! That could be interesting! I've heard that many wineries in Chianti area are cloased on Sat. and Sun. Does anyone know about this? Was hoping to get a day tour through Chianti from Siena. Does anyone have ideas on how? What about the rest of my itinerary? Any other comments out there?

Heather,
Your itinerary is a million times better! Now you'll have time to enjoy yourself.

I don't know the Hotel Palme in Monterosso, but I did stay in Portovenere and LOVED it. It's less crowded than the C.T. but it's got a wonderful feeling there, very relaxing and charming. Take the ferry to Monterosso and then do as much of the hike as you want! It's a great place to stay.

Paule
