reviews on hotel port du royal
hi,
how far away is this hotel really from rue cler? it says 5th arrondisement but some say it's at the edge of 13th - is it walking distance to eiffel tower and rue cler and how far ??
I"m looking for something close to rue cler for about 70E per night and this is the only thing that fits. except im not so sure how close it is.
Thankjs!

I didn't stay at Port Royal, although I peeked in to see a room. It looks like a very good value, but it's not even close to being easy walking distance to the Eiffel Tower or Rue Cler. It is, however, right around the corner from Rue Mouffetard, a market street that I personally preferred over Rue Cler.
You can go to mappy.com to get oriented with the city. Port Royal, if I remember correctly, is near the intersection of Blvd de Port Royal and Rue Pascal.

it is exactly on the border of the 5th and 13th, it's very near the Gobelins metro stop if you have a map. I think you have a misunderstanding that the 5th that wouldn't be near the 13th would be very close to the Eiffel Tower/rue Cler. It wouldn't be any appreciable difference in distance as those points are west of the 5th.
YOu could walk there, but it's several miles. I would get over the rue Cler thing if you have found a good hotel for your budget elsewhere, it's just a street with some shops on it, there is nothing unique about it. In fact, the location of the Port Royal is preferable to me, and I do prefer rue Mouffetard to rue Cler for a market street.
You have been reading something that I think is giving you false impressions about rue Cler and that you have to stay there and nowhere else in Paris.

yeah i think other rue M you guys are mentioning will do as well - i just love markets and of course if rue M is available right next to Port Royal - why not. And no i'm not afraid to use the metro but I just had this fantasy of walking to Eiffel tower within minutes in the evenings. but this port royal is only 70E, i've been searching and yet to find anything else near eiffel comparable. thx for the tips.

The hotel Champ de Mars is near that price range. There's a recent thread on it. http://www.hotel-du-champ-de-mars.com/champs2.html

Have a look at Hotel Prince Albert Tour Eiffel, a very very nice little hotel, 2 stars...For about 70€ you can have a double room. It is in the border between 7th and 15th...a residential area near Rue du Commerce,a good shopping area....And it is at walking ditance from Eiffel Tower!
