Retrieving your SNCF rail ticket at an ATM

Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to retrieve the rail tickets at a ticket counter instead of at the ATM machines?

Also do you have to retrieve them just before you are ready to board the train as it mentions on the SNCF site? I was thinking of picking them up at least a day before my journey.

Thanks!!

Hi franc,

Yes, you can get your ticket at the ticket counter.

You can get your ticket as soon as you arrive in Paris.

It's impossible to retrieve a train ticket at an ATM machine - are you thinking of the automatic ticket dispensers?

You can pick your ticket up any time you want from the ticket counter - a week before you travel, or five minutes before.

Thanks very much for the advice. It's good to know there is the option of picking up the tickets at the counter and in advance of your journey which the website doesn't tell you. Ira, this time I will not be in Paris unfortunately. Haha, yes, St. Cirq, I know it's not possible to retrieve tickets from an ATM machine that dispenses cash. But "ATM" is what the SNCF calls their machines as per their site: "To collect your ticket from an Automatic ticket machines (ATM) or in an SNCF station (in France only)"

Hi travelnut, thanks for the listing. It's very helpful to know. However, I won't be able to make use of it on this trip as I will be picking up my tickets in eastern France.

I checked the listing and my departure city is not on the list of SNCF boutiques. I thought it's allright to pick up the tickets at the train station itself or am I wrong?
Thanks.

Hi franc,

In the event that your train station doesn't have a ticket machine and the ticket counter is closed, bring your confirmation to the conductor - don't et him comme to you - and explain that you do not have a ticket in order to avoid a fine.

Yes; just go to the ticket counter with the booking reference number and the credit card you used to pay for the ticket. The advantage of using a boutique is that it's quicker--I've waited in line for 15 minutes at the Charles de Gaulle TGV station, and I saw a very long line-up at Gare de Lyon a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks again to all for the additional help. Margriet, you gave me an idea about the CDG ticket booth, but I'll only have about an hour's connection time.
