Restoration Hardware lightweight luggage-have you tried?
Got my RH catalogue today and saw the Heys hard-sided carry-on suitcase. Says its the world's lightest at just under 5 lbs. The cost, at $99 is a LOT less than we saw similar for at CDG. Have you purchased it or heard anything (good or bad) about it? I'm all about the carry-on!

There was a recent thread about suitcases. Much of the discussion was about the International Traveller polycarbonate luggage---very similar to this, different handle.
I almost bought an IT lightweight last year. But then I saw a display in SteinMart with pretty bad dents/scratches in the floor models. They were somewhat "cardboard-ish".

If you are looking for a super light suitecase that is also strong, please check out the RIMOWA brand.
I have purchased a lot of "light weight" suitecases and I must say this brand is the best! I am actuall on my way to purchase another 29" size luggage to take with me to London and Paris next week. I plan on stuffing it with chocolate.

JeanneB, that was my concern--the construction.
Cafegoddess, I went over to the Rimowa site, but that's a lot of money for polycarbonate!
I think I'll order one from RH and, if it looks/feels skimpy I'll return it.

Please "top" this thread with an update if you get one.
My main goal was a lightweight bag for train travel. I ended up buying the Eagle Creek 24" Pilot A Load Warrior:
http://tinyurl.com/d53xo
It is considerably smaller than my regular hardside 24". Ad says just under 7 lbs, but I'd swear it's lighter. There are two features I really like. The built-in straps to compress contents. And the extra handle on the lid (rather than the side) makes lifting much easier.
I was a little concerned about zipper quality, but the compression straps make that a non-issue. I've loaded it to bursting. But, once the straps are tightened, it's fine. And the contents don't shift.
It's "plain Jane", no pockets or zipper bags. I had a suitcase with one of those flat, detachable vinyl organizers in the lid. I now use that for my cosmetics and lay it on top of the contents just before closing the bag.
Mine is red, it also comes in charcoal. After Christmas last year, I bought it for $112--free shipping.

The Heys carry-on is extremely light and can hold a lot due to sides that are flexible. Wheels are very smooth.
The case opens like a clam with "hinge" portion being one of the short ends. You have to open the entire case to get to anything inside due to this design. There are no outside pockets and the finish is a very high gloss. Makes it very beautiful but very prone to damage. Even light bumps removes areas of the finish, revealing the white of the underlying polycarbonate material. The polycarbonate seems to be tough.
The case is for ONLY carry-on and not to be checked at all. The finish will be very damaged otherwise.
I have a Heys case and do like it a lot. It is 3lbs lighter than my usual luggage, which makes a huge difference.
It was never checked-in but has many scratches and nicks on it just from normal carry-on use. It is no longer beautiful but still highly functional.
When trying to slip it under a seat, I put a huge scrape across the entire face of the case when it bumped on the underparts of the seat. Even bumping against someone else's luggage took some of the finish off.
As long as you don't mind this feature, it is a great piece of luggage.
It is a great case as long as you realize there is almost no way to preserve its beauty with any normal use. Or you can get a very light color where the scrapes won' be so obvious (the underlying color of the case is white).
I think overstock occasionally also carries the case for less than $99.

Mel, before you order that suitcase make sure you check out the dimensions. They are smaller than my 21" suitcase, and that may account for the lower weight of 2 lbs than my travelpro light.
