We will be in Paris later this week and are considering a day out at Fontainebleau. Thinking not really picnic weather so would appreciate any restaurant or cafe recommendations you may have. According to their website the teashop or whatever they have at the chateau itself is open only in the spring/summer season. Would be either Saturday or Sunday depending on weather and our mood. We would prefer something cozy and casual rather than fancy or expensive.

Hopefully someone will give you a specific recommendation or two but there are a lot of restaurants in Fontainebleau and I suspect the majority of them have never been frequented by members here. If you just want casual and not fancy then you may just enjoy walking around the downtown and doing some window shopping (all restaurants have menus and prices posted outside, by law). The downtown area is right next to the château and quite compact (the streets that run off rue Dénecourt and rue Grande) and there are some quaint and charming streets that make for a nice stroll.

We once did a one-nighter in Fontainebleau enroute to The Loire and had a very nice atmospheric meal at a pub/brasserie on the main street with a big sign proclaiming its name...Le Franklin Roosevelt...Sort of a kick but if you're not an FDR fan, never mind.

Thanks for the thoughts. I have the la fourchette app loaded on my phone but didn't realize it extends outside Paris.

And I see besides Le Franklin Roosevelt they have also in Fontainebleau a restaurant Le Patton (on rue General Patton, mais bien sur!)

On the lafourchette link I provided be sure to look carefully at locations since I noticed many of the restaurants they listed were actually in nearby towns so be sure to reset the parameters. When I did this they actually have fewer listings and reviews than the other sites. You can also use yelp.com
