Restaurant recommendations for Edinburgh?

Anyone have tips on places to eat in Edinburgh that locals love? We're breaking our food budget on a meal earlier in our trip, so price is also a consideration. We'll be there two nights and staying in the Stockbridge neighborhood. Tips on less touristy (or touristy, but worth it) lunch spots that are close enough to the sites to be convenient would also be great. Thanks!

a bit pricey but we loved it..lunch would be more manageable than dinner. It's in a former ban k and it's gorgeous!

Enjoyed Cafe St Honore. Charming, romantic, very good meal, very accommodating. Black cab could not find it - located on a small little street like a hideaway.

I second the Kitchin in Leith. They have a very reasonably priced set lunch. Would return in a heartbeat if in Edinburgh.

We are not a local--we were tourists last year and enjoyed a place called The Cellar--very near the Museum of Scotland. Great food at reasonable prices.

Correction on the name--It is called the Cellar Door and it is near the National Museum of Scotland.

Try Rhubarb. It's in an old house in its own grounds, very Scottish and the food is excellent.

...plus another vote for the Witchery.
