Looking for restaurant recommendations for Budapest, Vienna and Prague in July. My 2 daughters (21 and 24) will be with me. We like all kinds of food, speak a little Hungarian and German, no Czech. We will be staying in Pest near the Hungarian Musuem, inside the Ringstrasse near Stadtspark in Vienna, and just on the border of Old Town/New Town near Wencelas Square in Prague. We will be looking for good value meals including a "splurge" dinner or two in each city. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Budapest budget eating: on the gallery in the Central Market.
Budapest splurge: either http://www.gundel.hu/site/index.php?page=en or http://www.bagolyvar.com/index.php?lang=en&mid=12.
Gundel's has the name recognition, because Gundel basically wrote the book for Hungarian cuisine. It's very formal (jacket & tie required for men), and the service is very correct. Oh, and the food is good.
Bagyolyvar is connected to Gundel's, and is not far away from it. All the staff are female. It's less formal than Gundel's, and a bit less expensive. I suspect its style might appeal more to your daughters.
Anyone been to Onyx in Budapest? Or Rosenstein's? Both of those are coming up as recommendations.
We just returned from 18 days split between Prague and Budapest...in Budapest we loved:
Lugas (Lugash) behind St. Istvan's Basilica on Bajesy-Zsilinszky....its very casual and inexpensive. In fact you will find prices at restaurants so much less than US prices because they aren't on the Euro....we spent $25-$35 per couple most nights. We sat outside both times we had dinner here...it's good Hungarian with fish for us vegetarians...beer is $1.50 or less for a half liter in both cities..can't beat that.
Also, we liked Cafe Kor on Sas on other side of Istvan's Square....more upscale but not expensive. Another hidden place is Gerloczy Cafe behind City Hall on Gerloczy St. The owner has made a Paris cafe on a small square and it's lovely...again we ate outside but they have an upstairs room for nonsmoking.
In Prague: We were there there for 10 days so we ate in a lot of places....
Louvre on Narodni....old famous place....quiet oasis from crowds and noise...ate there twice
Stara Doba, a little place near Charles Sqaure....
Una Bella Canzone, above the castle where we were staying...you probably won't be up there...
U Mecenase in Mallostaska across from St. Nicholas church in Mala Strana...wish we had had time to go back for dinner again...small place in historic building...very nice staff and great food.
I considered everything we ate a good value and most of it was really good....
Bellavista in Prague. Good food, great views, superb Urquell dark on tap.
