Trip Ideas
If you are going in the fall or winter, Paris, in Trastevere, has a fireplace and cozy, romantic atmosphere. Camponeschi, in Piazza Farnese, is elegant and romantic. If you are going in warmer weather, their outdoor patio is lovely. If you want a view, it's hard to beat the rooftop restaurant of the Hotel Forum, which overlooks the Colosseum.
Two suggestions:
(1)Restaurant at the Hassler at the top of the Spanish Steps - not small & cozy but soooo romantic and impressive. (great way to start a marriage!) After dinner and 'the big event' you can walk to the Trevi fountain and toss coins into the fountain for good fortune and happiness for your life together.
(2) Galeassi on the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. Sipping wine al fresco in this mesmerizing setting with a cool Italian breeze blowing and street minstrels serenading you - who could say no???
Good luck and best wishes for a long and loving life together!!!!
The Hassler Hotel is a great idea. You want the Rooftop Restaurant there. If you decide on this one, reserve a table next to a window. Fantastic views; very romantic setting.
klaus: I second Camponeschi in Piazza Farnese or if money is no object, you might want to try Mirabella at the Hotel Splendide. It is a rooftop restaurant that has a magnificent view of Rome near the Via Veneto area. Quite beautiful. Congratulations, she is very lucky.
You may even want to contact your hotel and tell them what you are going to do. They can maybe provide some extras in the room upon your return....
Also, you can ask them for restaurant recommendations. We just got married in Italy and all of our hotels were helpful with EVERYTHING - even wedding details.
Italians are very romantic....we got to one restaurant for dinner and our hotel had sent us flowers...sitting at our table when we arrived at the restaurant.....
Good luck with your proposal...Italy is truly romantic (that's why we got married there!). I wish you both happiness forever!!
Are you set on a restaurant? If not, then I'm sure folks will have other romantic places to suggest. Something like, under the occulus in the Pantheon or some relatively empty ancient church.
Thanks a lot to all of you who gave me your advice. With the list of restaurants you gave me I will do some on site research as soon as we get to Rome in two weeks from now (wish me luck!).
You were all very nice!
The very best of luck to you - I'm sure the answer will be 'yes'. And if not, well, hey, you ARE in Italy, I can think of worse places....
